MX5 Club Rules – Gauteng Owners Club

The Club has adopted the Constitution of The MX-5 Club of South Africa. In the event of a conflict between Club Rules and the said Constitution, the terms of the Constitution will prevail.

Duty of Care

All members must maintain their MX5s in a road-worthy condition and clean and presentable state. Members are required to drive within the rules of the road

and in a courteous manner with due consideration for other users of the road.

Club members are ordered to be mindful of any action that would bring the Club into disrepute.

Club members are required to have current and appropriate third-party comprehensive insurance.

Club Membership

Club membership is at the discretion of the committee and against the payment of an annual subscription fee.

The Club Subscription Fees for 2023:

Ordinary Members: R500.00 p.a.

Country and Student members: R300.00 p.a.

The Club operates with modern electronic technology. To this end, it is a prerequisite of Membership that all members are registered on the official club website and accept and acknowledge the published Indemnity, The Constitution, and the Rules. This includes Temporary members or Guests.

https://www.mx5club.co.za/index.php  is the official club website.

Guests

The Club administration will organize a Number of events in the year and these events will be closed and” members only “unless otherwise indicated. Guests will be allowed at Closed Events only on the direct consent of the chairman.

The Club may, at its sole discussion and for the purpose of member recruitment, further organize a few open events in the year. This shall not exceed two events.

In all cases Guests must register on the Club website indicating their acceptance of the Club Rules, Indemnities, and constitution.

The Club may, at its discretion, levy a temporary membership fee payable by The Guest, to be determined per event.

Insurance

Through the Club’s membership of SAMCA, certain beneficial vehicle and general insurance products are offered to paid-up members. Participation therein is encouraged but entirely voluntary, and members are under no obligation to do so.

The availability of a 1.5 kg DCP fire extinguisher within the car or the boot is a requirement of Vantage Insurance and is strongly recommended for members holding other insurance policies.

Convoys

The nature of our club events frequently dictates potentially large groups of members' cars traveling in informally constituted Convoys towards a specific endpoint.

Unless formally organized as a Convoy, or directed to do so by onsite Traffic authorities, members should avoid traveling in groups larger than 5 cars.

The lead member should not exceed the authorized speed limit at any time.

Cars should be carefully spaced at a minimum of 4 car lengths between cars.

No overtaking is permitted.

A member should always maintain a view of the car following behind

Cars should double stack at robot intersections

The tail or sweeper car should have Cellular or Radio contact with the lead car.

Rally Events and Treasure Hunts.

The Club will from time to time organise events that take the form of simplified Regularity events with an Ideal Time being the objective or the discovery of a mystery location. The Club does not time these events and they are neither a race nor an event where outright speed is a factor.

Participants do so at their sole discretion and are urged to clarify any potential insurance risk.

Finances

The Club shall appropriate and hold in reserve an amount equivalent to the minimum excess payable in the event of a public liability insurance claim.
