Our History
The Mazda MX5 Owners Club was founded in 1991. The new Club grew over the years and the branched out to 4 sub regions; Cape Town, Kwazulu-natal, Eastern Cape and George each with their own leadership and events.
Things progressed well until around 2015 when the some of the founders left and by 2018 the formal club barely existed.
Covid further added to the decline of the Club.
In time ,Cape Town opted out and the Club’s accreditation with SAMCA lapsed.
Various splinter groups began operating and by 2021 , the splinter groups were far bigger than the club itself.
In 2022, the various groups got together with the purpose of rebuilding the club. A new committee was voted in and the task of rebuilding began.
An interim constitution was adopted and things slowly began to function.
The revised Constitution was ratified at a Special AGM and things have advanced positively again.
Membership in the MX5 Club provides one with the opportunity to learn more about your MX5,and experiencing the Absolute Driving Pleasure. This learning experience is based on shared knowledge and friendship with other MX5 owners. Our monthly MX5 Events are a great place to discuss services, performance, modifications or just socialise with other members.
